Buttercup bag

Alright, I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing about our ducky excitement around here so I will give it a rest for now and instead show off my latest sewing project.

This is a little purse I made from a pattern available here for free over at made by Rae.  There are also dozens of photos on Flickr that make me want to run to my sewing machine and sew up another (and another and another and another...)  I love it so much partly because it was from a free pattern which is always nice but also because it is so perfectly adorable and stylish.  I often imagine that if I sling something like this over my arm it might make up for me not having a shower or brushing my hair that day (AND I reserve the right to believe whatever I want!).

Really, what I love most about the whole bag is the sentiment.  I got the floral fabric at a thrift store when I was pregnant with Owen, not knowing at that point that he was well, an Owen.  I never really found a good use for it until Carmel was born.  I used the fabric to make a newborn sized sling for her and carried her around everywhere in it until she got too big.  I have been saving the fabric from the sling, totally unable to part with it...and now I don't have to.  I am just loving the memories of my new tiny babe when I look at this handbag.  So sweet.

  1. yeah, this is finally the project I will make out of my very special and pretty fabric that I got on etzy a while ago. I think I will make one for me (a purse, big enough to also store a diaper in it, if necessary...) and one for my sister, who also loves pink and brown fabrics...
